Chinese vehicle company, BYD, posted a video on China’s social media platform Weibo a video showcasing the Denza Z9GT model charging using the company’s latest 1,500-kilowatt Flash charging station. The company also released the Seal 08 flagship sedan which uses the very same battery. This comes in an event showcasing the Ocean-series flagship which is set to launch in the markets in Q2 of 2026.
Chairman and President of BYD, Wang Chuanfu, emphasised that China needs to focus on the lingering issue and challenge of slow charging speeds and poor low temperature charging performance due to the increase in popularity of electric vehicles in the country.
Named the Blade Battery 2.0, this battery is capable of fast charging within a small amount of time. A Facebook post said that it can charge from 10 per cent to 97 per cent in just 12 minutes which is ‘equivalent to fuelling up.’ This battery also allows the vehicle to have more than 1000 km of driving range.
The battery features a breakthrough Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) layer, which is a key component of any lithium-ion battery. The solution uses molecular-level engineering and macroscopic structural optimisation to be ultra-thin and highly dense and consists of dynamic self-repairing technology.
To get the most efficiency in charging, energy-station integration has upgraded to FLASH charger stations. The company plans for 20,000 such chargers in China by the end of the year. Upon success, they are planning overseas rollout.
The Flash-Release cathode features a directionally engineered, multi-level particle-size architecture enabling dense packing and rapid intercalation. The Flash-Flow electrolyte will deliver high ionic conductivity and fast ion mobility. Flash-Intercalate will allow 360-degree 3D high speed lithium-ion intercalation.
BYD said the Blade Battery 2.0 complies with the new standards, showcasing multiple nail penetration tests on a single pack which did not catch fire.
Vehicles equipped with the Blade Battery 2.0 will be built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform. This structure will allow faster charging and higher efficiency compared with conventional EV systems. Performance wise, the battery will support all-wheel-drive and will produce more than 480kW of power (equivalent to 644 horsepower). The time for accelerating from 0-100 km/h is less than 5 seconds.
