After a brief hiatus from cinema, Bangladeshi star Nusraat Faria is returning to the silver screen with ‘Tribunal’, a film that promises to showcase a more mature, introspective side of the versatile performer.
Known for her energetic on-screen presence and cross-border success in both Dhaka and Kolkata, Faria now appears determined to redefine herself through roles that speak to conviction and conscience.
In Tribunal, she portrays a woman who dares to stand firm for justice and truth, a character Faria describes as one of the most emotionally demanding of her career.
“What drew me in was her strength,” she said. “The responsibility and emotional depth she carries really resonated with me. It’s not often that an actor gets to play such a layered, powerful woman.”
Faria’s career has spanned a decade of film, television and music, but she admits her priorities have evolved. Once known for juggling multiple projects at once, she now chooses her roles with deliberate care.
“I’ve realised that doing less can mean doing better,” she explained. “I want to focus on scripts that have meaning, stories that move people or make them think. For me, artistic growth isn’t about the number of projects, but the quality of what I bring to each one,” she said.
That sense of purpose is what drew her to Tribunal, whose narrative, she says, mirrors her own principles. “The film’s message struck a chord with me,” she reflected. “It’s about courage, truth and resilience; qualities I deeply value in real life.”
Although her recent projects have been rooted in Bangladesh, Faria has not ruled out returning to Indian cinema.
“I’ve grown up admiring so many Indian artists,” she said. “The logistics have been tricky in recent years, but I’m hopeful about future collaborations. The creative exchange between the two industries has always inspired me.”
