Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur is going to Singapore for advanced treatment on doctors’ advice.
In a press release, Gono Odhikar Parishad stated: “Nurul Haque Nur, who was seriously injured in a sudden attack by agents of the ousted autocrat fascist Hasina within the law enforcement agencies in front of the central office on August 29, is going to Singapore tomorrow [Monday] for advanced treatment on doctors’ advice, after receiving treatment for 18 long days at Dhaka Medical College and subsequently at a private medical facility. Despite Nurul Haque Noor’s reluctance, he is being sent abroad based on doctors’ advice and the decision of his family and party. Gono Odhikar Parishad requests prayers from the nation for his swift recovery.”
Leaders of Gono Odhikar Parishad hjave stated, “Although delayed, we commend the government for taking steps for advanced treatment. However, we express concern that even after 24 days since this brutal attack, no action has been taken against those involved, and there has been no progress in the report of the judicial inquiry commission formed by the government.”
The statement goes on to say, “An attack on a well-known political leader and party chief in the anti-fascist movement is an ominous sign for other political leaders and the country’s democracy. Therefore, the leaders of Gono Odhikar Parishad urge the government to take punitive measures against those involved in this brutal attack without delay. Otherwise, Gono Odhikar Parishad will announce strict programs on the streets, alongside the anti-fascist people of the country.”
