Addressing the conference, Ganapati Roy said students need to understand economics and banking from an early stage to prepare themselves for future leadership.

“Today’s students are the future leaders of Bangladesh. To prepare them for future leadership, it is essential that they develop an understanding of economics and banking from their student life,” he said. “The government’s financial literacy initiatives are strengthening the country’s institutional economic framework.”

Kazi Mutmainna Tahmida highlighted Bangladesh Bank’s initiatives to make banking services accessible to students through school banking. She said Bangladesh Bank had introduced policy support to ensure that students can access banking services free of charge.

She said 59 out of 61 banks in the country are currently offering student banking services. As of the January-March quarter, the number of student bank accounts stood at about 6.273 million, with total deposits reaching BDT 29.10 billion.

In his virtual address, Dr Md Touhidul Alam Khan said banking services had become easier to access through digital platforms and mobile applications.

“Banking services are now available at our fingertips. Students can access banking services conveniently from home through digital platforms and mobile applications,” he said. “NRBC Bank remains committed to encouraging savings among students and providing them with modern, student-friendly banking solutions.”

Mohammad Abdul Qaium Khan said NRBC Bank is offering banking services to students free of charge in line with Bangladesh Bank’s guidelines.

He said the bank had also introduced specialised services to support students pursuing higher education at home and abroad. Through its network of nearly 650 branches and sub-branches across the country, NRBC Bank is providing banking and educational support services to students nationwide, he said.
