The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has strongly refuted recent media reports regarding the management and operation of the port’s terminals, describing them as “completely baseless, imaginary, and misleading.”
In a press release issued on Sunday, the CPA said such reports are spreading unnecessary confusion among the general public and port users.
According to the statement signed by the port secretary, the Chattogram Port Authority retains full ownership of all its terminals, jetties, yards, and related facilities. The government or the CPA has never made any decision or plan to hand over the management of any terminal to any foreign company.
The authority clarified operators are appointed in accordance with existing government rules through a transparent, impartial, and public-friendly process. However, a few media outlets have published reports based on assumptions and unreliable sources, which have misled the public and disrupted the port’s normal working environment.
Terming Chattogram Port as the “heart of the country’s national economy,” the authority emphasised the need for responsible and accurate journalism to ensure the port’s continued smooth operation and development.
The CPA urged the media organisations to exercise greater professionalism and caution while reporting on port-related matters and to avoid spreading false or misleading information.
