A new poster for the upcoming Bangladeshi film ‘Masud Rana’, based on Kazi Anwar Hossain’s iconic spy character, has been released ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, with the design inspired by the classic covers of the popular book series published by Sheba Prokashoni.
The poster was unveiled on Tuesday by Jaaz Multimedia, which wrote: “From the pages of books to the silver screen, Masud Rana is returning in the familiar form that once created waves of excitement among Bangla readers.”
Jaaz Multimedia first announced plans in 2020 to produce two films centred on the celebrated fictional detective character created by Kazi Anwar Hossain. Although MR-9: Do or Die was released in 2023, director Saikat Nasir’s Masud Rana faced multiple delays and remained stalled for several years.
Producer Abdul Aziz has now confirmed that the film will finally be released during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holiday season.
He said Kazi Anwar Hossain had personally approved the screenplay before his death. Abdul Aziz also claimed that no compromises had been made in bringing the story to the big screen, describing the production as one of Jaaz Multimedia’s most expensive projects.
The film is jointly produced by Impress Telefilm and Jaaz Multimedia. Most of the filming was completed around five years ago, but the release was postponed after work on a song and several scenes remained unfinished. Those remaining portions have recently been completed.
Actor Russell Rana plays the title role of Masud Rana, while Puja Cherry stars opposite him as Sohana. Syeda Tithi Ommi appears in the role of Obonita.
The film is scheduled for release in cinemas and multiplexes across Bangladesh during Eid-ul-Azha.
