The New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chattogram Port Authority achieved a historic monthly throughput in May 2026, handling 126,496 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of containers, surpassing all previous monthly records since commencing operations in 2007.
According to a press release from Chief Personnel Officer Nasir Uddin, the terminal maintained an average daily handling volume of 4,081 TEUs, with 59,851 TEUs as imports and 66,645 TEUs as exports, reflecting strong growth in both inbound and outbound trade.
NCT has been in operation since 2007, initially managed by domestic terminal operator Site Powertech. After the expiry of Site Powertech’s contract, management transitioned to Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL) while a process is underway to award operations to Dubai-based DP World. The terminal remains under the supervision of the port authority and the control of the Bangladesh Navy.
Operational performance has improved significantly since CDDL took over, with enhanced supervision and coordination across vessel operations, delivery points, approach channels, and sea gates increasing efficiency and reducing vessel loading and unloading times.
The previous monthly record of 125,533 TEUs was set in October 2025, and the May 2026 performance sets a new benchmark for Chattogram Port.
Authorities credited the achievement to the collective efforts of the chairman, members, officers, and employees of both the port authority and CDDL. The milestone is expected to strengthen the country’s principal seaport, facilitate foreign trade, and contribute positively to the national economy.
Chattogram Port operates three terminals: NCT as the primary container terminal, along with Chattogram Container Terminal (CCT) and the General Cargo Berth (GCB). In 2025, the three terminals handled a total of 3.41 million TEUs. Additionally, Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) is operated by Red Sea Gateway Terminal, a Saudi Arabian operator.
The record underscores the importance of robust management and operational coordination, highlighting NCT’s growing capacity to support Bangladesh’s import-export activities.
