The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has established a dedicated cell tasked with tackling fake information, misleading content and rumours for the forthcoming national elections.
According to a press release, the cell unit will operate round-the-clock, tracking online platforms and social media, cross-checking information and working to ensure the accuracy of digital content.
The NCSA will coordinate its activities with the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, Press Information Bangladesh (PIB), Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and various law enforcement bodies.
The agency urged citizens to verify the origin of any information or visuals before circulating them online. It also called on users to promptly notify the NCSA if they come across suspicious, provocative or anti-national posts.
The statement noted that safeguarding the nation’s cyberspace is a collective responsibility. It appealed to everyone to avoid circulating false or fabricated posts, photo cards or videos, and to alert others about the tactics of anti-state groups.
The NCSA said it is running a 24/7 helpline to provide rapid support in preventing cybercrime. Four dedicated e-mail channels have been introduced for public complaints:
- [email protected] – for issues related to online gambling
- [email protected] – for complaints on false information, rumours, misinformation or disinformation
- [email protected] – for fake accounts, obscene or harmful content and online harassment
- [email protected] – for cyberattacks targeting Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) institutions
The agency called for public cooperation so that citizens can contribute to keeping the country’s digital space secure and responsibly managed.
