Speculation surrounding the resignation of Nasir Uddin Patwary, the chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party(NCP), has been dismissed by the party as unfounded rumours.
Multiple party leaders confirmed late Thursday night that the report of his resignation was baseless and intended to create confusion.
In a post on his verified Facebook profile, NCP Joint Member Secretary (Office Affairs) Saleh Uddin Sifat wrote that Patwary remains with the party and continues to handle key responsibilities, including recent registration-related processes at the Election Commission. “He is still serving as chief coordinator and overseeing organisational work across various wings,” Sifat noted, terming any claim of resignation or removal untrue.
Another party leader, Abdul Hannan Masud, also issued a statement on Facebook rejecting the claim. He said the news of Patwary’s resignation was nothing but rumour, condemning what he called a “false and baseless” report.
Earlier on Thursday night, a media outlet ran a story—quoting unnamed sources—claiming that Patwary had submitted his resignation due to a dispute over organisational roles.
According to that report, former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and current Youth and Sports Adviser to the interim government, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, is expected to join NCP before the upcoming 13th national election in February. Bhuiyan has reportedly sought the post of director for election and organisational affairs, with the party’s top leadership signalling quiet approval. The development allegedly upset Patwary, prompting him to step aside, although the report stated he wished to remain a general member.
The report further suggested that Patwary’s absence from a newly launched wing—National Labour Shakti—on 17 October indicated his distancing from party activities.
Despite repeated attempts, the media could not obtain Patwary’s response on the matter.
Patwary has remained a noticeable figure in the party since its formation, gaining attention at times for controversial remarks.
