Members of Bangladesh Navy has rescued 13 fishermen who had been adrift in the Bay of Bengal for three days after their fishing trawler’s engine broke down.
The navy ship “BNS Shaheed Mohibullah” carried out the rescue operation during a regular patrol on Saturday.
According to a navy press release issued on Sunday, the vessel was spotted about 20 nautical miles off Kutubdia Lighthouse in Cox’s Bazar.
Seeing the naval ship nearby, the stranded fishermen signaled for help using lights and hand gestures. Responding swiftly, the navy personnel reached the scene, rescued all 13 fishermen and seized the trawler.
After the rescue, the fishermen were provided with food, fresh water, and primary medical care aboard the navy vessel. They were later brought safely to shore and handed over to their families.
The fishermen said that their trawler’s engine had stopped functioning on 6 November, leaving them stranded in deep sea until their rescue.
