The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has established a three-member committee to investigate sexual harassment allegations made by former national women’s team captain Jahanara Alam, with a final report expected within 15 days.
BCB director Asif Akbar stressed that no one should be labelled guilty before the inquiry concludes, and urged patience while the panel carries out a thorough investigation. He said the board would take appropriate action if anyone is found responsible.
Speaking to the media, Akbar said, “It is an offence to call someone guilty before the allegations are proven. The BCB has set up an inquiry committee and given them 15 days. We should wait for the process to conclude. After 15 days, if there are issues, we will deal with them appropriately.”
Akbar also highlighted the importance of resolving internal issues to maintain the Bangladesh women’s team’s recent performance levels. Despite a strong run in recent competitions, the team has not won a match since their opening World Cup victory over Pakistan.
He added, “We believe that to sustain the current standing of Bangladesh women’s cricket, we must address these problems decisively and firmly. Our aim is to ensure continuity without carrying forward past controversies.”
Akbar noted that the board, just over a month and a half into its tenure, is focused on resolving matters efficiently and avoiding unnecessary disputes to maintain stability within the national setup.
