Nearly two decades after Mustafa Zahid’s “Tera Mera Rishta” became one of the most popular songs from Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan, the Pakistani singer is reportedly in talks with the makers of Awarapan 2 to recreate the track.
According to Mid-day, Zahid is discussing the remake with producers Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Bhatt.
If the deal is finalised, the song could be recorded in Dubai, making it one of the rare recent collaborations between a Pakistani playback singer and a mainstream Hindi film.
The reported move comes amid the Indian film industry’s continued stance against Pakistani artistes following the 2016 Uri terror attack and the 2025 Pahalgam attack.
A source told Mid-day that the song may not feature in the film itself because of possible certification concerns. Instead, the new version could be used exclusively for social media promotions.
The collaboration is still awaiting approval from both sides.
Meanwhile, Awarapan 2 has brought Emraan back as Shivam Pandit 19 years after the original film.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, the sequel also stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Puran Gabbi and others. It released worldwide on 14 August.
Music remains central to the franchise. The sequel’s soundtrack features composers including Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli and Amaal Malik.
“Ve Junoon”, “Yeh Awarapan” and “Toh Phir Aao” have already been released.
A recreated “Tera Mera Rishta”, composed by Mithoon and sung by Saaj Bhatt and Subodhh Sharma, also features in the trailer, with original lyricist Sayeed Qadri returning alongside Mithoon for the new version.
If Zahid’s involvement materialises, it could add another layer of nostalgia to the sequel while marking an unusual cross-border musical collaboration.
