A mother took her own life along with her two young children by jumping under a moving train in Gazipur on Monday morning.
The motive behind the tragic incident remains unclear.
The incident occurred around 11am at a railway crossing in Nayanpur, Ward 41, under Pubail Police Station. Dhaka Railway Police and Pubail Station Master Musa confirmed the event.
The victims were identified as Hafiza Khatun Mala, 25, daughter of Mozammel Haque from Kaliganj Upazila, and her children—eight-year-old daughter Tabassum, a first-grade student, and five-year-old son Maruf.
Police and the family said Hafiza Khatun Mala was staying with her children at her in-laws’ house in Aturi, Joydebpur.
A dispute arose with family members over domestic issues on Monday morning. Later, she left the house with her children, claiming she would take her daughter to school.
According to eyewitnesses, she reached the outer signal area east of Pubail Railway Crossing in Nayanpur around 11am.
A moving Titas Commuter train heading to Brahmanbaria then struck her and her children, killing all three on the spot.
Pubail Police Officer-in-Charge Atikul Islam told the Times that the bodies were recovered from the site.
“The preliminary investigation suggests that Hafiza Khatun Mala committed suicide along with her two children. The reason behind this tragedy is under investigation,” he said.
