A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants for ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 40 others in connection with two murder cases involving the deaths of a trucker and an auto-rickshaw driver in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur during the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam passed the order after accepting the charge sheets submitted in both cases on Monday.
According to court sources, the court took cognisance of the charge sheets against a total of 64 accused. As 41 of the accused, including Sheikh Hasina, are currently fugitives, the court issued arrest warrants following an application by the prosecution.
Prosecutors Harunur Rashid and Kaiyum Hossain Nayan participated in the hearing on behalf of the state.
The two cases were filed over the killings of truck driver Md Hossain and CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Sabuj.
