Jagannath Hall’s debating club “Bitorko Ekti Tarkik Sangathan” emerged champion at the university-level segment of the 6th Bijoy Debate Festival, while Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall’s debating club “Assembly of Debaters” finished as runner-up.
Parvez Gazi was named Debater of the Tournament, and Dhiman Biswas was awarded Debater of the Final, according to a press release.
The festival was organised by the Bijoy Ekattor Hall Debating Club of the University of Dhaka. Alongside the inter-hall university competition, an internal building debate competition was also held at Bijoy Ekattor Hall.
In this segment, Bijoy Ekattor ‘Padma’ became champion and Bijoy Ekattor ‘Jamuna’ secured the runner-up position. Shahriar Sajoy was named Debater of the Tournament, while Giasuddin Roni was awarded Debater of the Final in the internal competition.
The closing ceremony of the 6th Bijoy Debate Festival took place on Sunday evening at the auditorium of Bijoy Ekattor Hall. Professor Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the University of Dhaka, attended the event as chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners.
The programme was presided over by Asif Adnan Amir, president of the Bijoy Ekattor Hall Debating Club.
Among others present were Professor Dr S M Ali Reza, provost of Bijoy Ekattor Hall; Mohammad Hossain, chief executive of Dhaka Peace Foundation; Arefin Rahman Alif, moderator of the Bijoy Ekattor Hall Debating Club; Md Abu Sadiq Qayem, vice president of DUCSU; Zubair Hossain, president of the Dhaka University Debating Society; Ragib Anjum, general secretary; Hasanul Banna Arfat, vice president of the Bijoy Ekattor Hall Parliament; and Ashik Billah, general secretary.
The event was conducted by Tanim Bin Kaiyum, general secretary of the Bijoy Ekattor Hall Debating Club. A total of 28 debate teams from public and private universities across the country participated in the two-day festival.
The competition featured seven rounds, from the preliminary stage to the final, with participants engaging in logic-based debates focusing on the Liberation War, state philosophy, and contemporary Bangladesh.
