BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will visit Mymensingh on Tuesday after 22 years and address a public rally at the Mymensingh Circuit House Ground.
He is also scheduled to address an election rally in Rajshahi on Thursday. As part of his election campaign, Tarique Rahman will join the rally at the Circuit House Ground around 2:30pm.
In preparation for his visit, BNP’s Mymensingh Metropolitan unit held a preparatory meeting on Sunday.
The meeting, held at the Tarique Smriti Auditorium of the Town Hall, was chaired by Metropolitan BNP Convener Professor Shafiqul Islam, with BNP Mymensingh Divisional Organising Secretary Shariful Alam attending as the chief guest.
BNP leaders and activists, including party candidates from 24 constituencies across the division and representatives of BNP’s affiliated organisations, were present at the meeting.
Later, BNP candidates Abu Wahab Akand (Mymensingh-4, Sadar), Wares Ali Mamun (Jamalpur-5, Sadar), Mahbubur Rahman Liton (Mymensingh-7, Trishal), Motahar Hossain Talukder (Mymensingh-2, Phulpur–Tarakanda), Engineer M. Iqbal Hossain (Mymensingh-3, Gauripur), Fakhruddin Ahmed Bachchu (Mymensingh-11, Bhaluka), and Akhtaruzzaman Bachchu (Mymensingh-10, Gaffargaon), among others, visited the rally venue at the Circuit House Ground.
After the Mymensingh rally, Tarique Rahman will attend two more election rallies on his way back. He will address a rally at Gazipur’s Rajbari Ground at 6pm and another at the Azampur Eidgah Ground in Uttara at 7pm. He is expected to reach his residence in Gulshan at 8pm after completing the programmes.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night, Tarique held a virtual meeting with BNP candidates from 13 constituencies in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, and Natore, along with leaders of the party’s metropolitan and district units, to ensure the success of the Rajshahi rally. During the meeting, he confirmed his decision to visit Rajshahi.
Confirming the visit, BNP candidate for the Rajshahi-2 constituency Mizanur Rahman Minu said Tarique Rahman will address a massive election rally as the chief guest at the Madrasa Ground in Rajshahi.
Preparations for the rally, including construction of the stage, began on Sunday morning. A wave of enthusiasm has been observed among party leaders and activists in the city, and campaign activities are underway to make the rally successful.
Minu said Tarique Rahman last visited Rajshahi in 2003 to conduct a training programme for party leaders and activists. He described the upcoming rally as the largest in the city’s history, with several lakh leaders and activists from three districts expected to attend.
According to him, Tarique Rahman will reach Rajshahi by air around 12:15pm on Thursday and proceed directly to the rally venue at Madrasa Ground.
After concluding the Rajshahi rally, he will travel by road to Naogaon, where he will address another election rally at the Naogaon Bypass in the evening. Later, he will travel to Bogura by road and attend another election rally there the same night. There is a possibility that he will stay overnight in Bogura.
Party sources said that, in addition to candidates from six Rajshahi constituencies, BNP Rajshahi Divisional Organising Secretary Syed Shaheen Shaukat and BNP candidate for the Natore-2 constituency Advocate Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu also participated in the virtual meeting on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the date for Tarique’s rally in Barishal has been rescheduled once again. Due to repeated changes, some confusion has arisen regarding the time and venue of the rally. However, BNP leaders said the Barishal visit has not been cancelled and the date was changed due to scheduling complexities. A revised date will be announced later.
Previously, the rally was scheduled for 26 January and later rescheduled to 27 January. BNP leaders noted that maintaining the schedule has become challenging as Tarique Rahman is currently holding rallies across the country.
