Mosharraf Karim has downplayed reports of an alleged unpleasant incident involving him in Kolkata, saying no significant event took place and urging people not to exaggerate the matter.
The issue gained attention on Tuesday, June 16, after a Facebook post by expatriate journalist Jawad Nirjhor circulated widely on social media. The post claimed that on Monday night, a group of individuals made offensive remarks towards Mosharraf Karim while he was walking with his wife and actress Robena Reza Jui near a hotel in Kolkata’s New Market area. The post also alleged that the situation became heated.
Following the post, the matter sparked widespread discussion online. Reports published by various media outlets claimed that several individuals identified as supporters of the Awami League had behaved aggressively towards the actor.
However, Mosharraf Karim rejected the significance of those claims. Speaking to a media outlet, he said, “The way the matter has spread on social media is not how it happened in reality. Nothing occurred that would warrant a news report.”
He added, “Many things are exaggerated on Facebook. But this incident does not contain enough substance to justify a news story. To be honest, nothing much happened.”
The actor said he is currently in Kolkata on a personal trip rather than for professional commitments or filming work. He travelled with his wife to meet friends and spend time sightseeing.
According to Mosharraf Karim, they are expected to return to Dhaka within the next three to four days.
Meanwhile, when contacted about the matter, Rashed Mamun Apu, general secretary of the Actors Equity Association, said he did not have any specific information regarding the alleged incident.
