Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, whose acting brilliance has mesmerised audiences for over four decades, has been named the recipient of the 53rd Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema.
The announcement, made by India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Saturday, sparked widespread excitement among fans and the film fraternity.
According to the official note, Mohanlal is being recognised for a career that has inspired two generations, with acclaimed performances across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi cinema.
The award will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards in New Delhi on September 23. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the veteran actor on social media, calling the recognition well-deserved.
With over 350 films to his credit, Mohanlal has long been a towering figure in Indian cinema. He has twice won the National Film Award for Best Actor and has also established himself as a director and producer.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, considered the pinnacle of recognition in the industry, honours lifetime contributions to Indian cinema, making Mohanlal’s win a landmark moment in his illustrious career.
