The body of a 13-year-old schoolboy was recovered from Reju Khal in Ukhiya early Friday, about 14 hours after he went missing.

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nur Ahmad confirmed the matter and said police are investigating at the scene. The deceased has been identified as Badhon.

Family and local sources stated that Badhon had been missing since Thursday. After failing to locate him, his father filed a General Diary (GD) with the Ukhiya Police Station, while missing person notices were also widely circulated on social media.

At around 10pm, Badhon’s friend revealed that they had been climbing a plum tree near the estuary of the Reju Khal to eat plums that evening. The friend claimed that Badhon suddenly fell into the canal but gripped by fear he did not immediately inform anyone.

As news of the incident spread, people gathered along the canal banks during the night. On Friday around 7am, locals alerted the police after noticing a portion of the body floating in the water, and officers subsequently recovered the remains.

OC Nur stated, “The exact cause of the teenager’s death can be confirmed following the investigation. Badhon’s friend is being questioned, and necessary legal actions will be taken.”
