Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP Standing Committee and the party’s nominated candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, has alleged that certain candidates are violating the electoral code of conduct by delivering provocative speeches ahead of the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.
Speaking to journalists at Nayapaltan on Wednesday afternoon, Mirza Abbas claimed that the actions and remarks of some candidates are highly offensive and clearly violate the Election Commission (EC) regulations.
Although he did not mention any specific names, the BNP leader highlighted that in his own constituency, some candidates are spreading “nonsense” about him.
Mirza Abbas further claimed that such statements are being made intentionally to incite a reaction. Abbas urged the Election Commission to monitor these provocative remarks and behaviours with seriousness and to take necessary action.
The BNP leader noted that he does not intend to react to these statements, stating, “I do not want to give any reaction to this, and I will not.” He concluded by expressing his desire for the election to be conducted in a fair and smooth manner.
