NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwary, contesting Dhaka-8 as part of the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat, has appealed to voters to financially support his election campaign through bank transfers and the bKash mobile service.
In a press release on Tuesday, Patwary said he intends to raise the funds directly from the public, describing the contributions as a “trust” from the people.
He also promised full transparency, ensuring that all campaign expenditures would be publicly accounted for.
Highlighting Election Commission rules, he explained that a candidate is allowed to spend a maximum of Tk 10 per voter. With 2,75,468 registered voters in Dhaka-8, the total permissible campaign expenditure is Tk 2,754,680.
Patwary emphasized that he does not possess vast personal wealth nor relies on hired muscle to influence voters. “I place my faith in Almighty’s blessings and in the support of the people. I do not believe in buying votes or using thugs to manipulate polling stations,” he said.
Criticising past political practices, he said that unethical and violent politics were common before July 2024, but he does not associate himself with such approaches.
On his campaign strategy, Patwary said he would follow election laws and regulations, campaigning under his ‘Shapla Kali’ symbol through legitimate and approved methods.
He also announced that his campaign office would be inaugurated soon, alongside authorized poster distribution and other promotional activities.
