Mehidy Hasan Miraz spoke about the team’s plans and the need for a clear direction as Bangladesh prepare for tough tours abroad.
The ODI captain focused on leadership first. He said a captain needs time to build a strong group.
“If a captain is there for the long term, he can build a team bond very well,” he said.
He also shared his concern about short term roles.
“I do not say that responsibility should be given for the short term because, at the end of the day, it becomes very difficult for him to build a team bond.”
Miraz explained how long term leadership helps with planning.
“I will be able to plan very well for every series and in which conditions we will play.”
He then spoke about team balance. He said the team may use more pace bowlers when conditions allow it.
“If such an opportunity comes, of course we will think that way.”
He praised the pace unit for their recent work.
“Our pace bowlers have been doing very well over the last few years and have been consistently performing very well… If such a situation comes, we will definitely try to utilise it.”
Miraz also shared what he heard from board president Tamim Iqbal.
“He said our team is doing well… and that we just need to keep playing good cricket the way we are playing.”
