Elderly woman killed at DMCH gate in car accident

An unidentified elderly woman, aged around 70, died after being run over by a private car at the gate of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The accident took place around 3am on Wednesday night.

Dhaka Medical Police Camp in-charge Md Faruk confirmed the death, citing doctors.

Hospital sources said Kamran Molla, a passenger in the car, stated that they live in Badda. He said they came to the hospital around 3am with an emergency patient.

As the car entered through the emergency gate of DMCH, the driver, Alam, ran over the woman lying on the road near the police camp. She was wrapped in a sack.

The driver did not notice her and thought it was an empty sack left on the road. As there was an emergency patient inside the car, he drove over it.

Later, after realising the situation, he stopped the car and took the woman to the emergency department and admitted her.

She died while undergoing treatment at around 5:30am.

He said the driver has been handed over to Shahbagh Police Station. Shahbagh Police are investigating the incident.
