The Ministry of Education on Tuesday dismissed social media rumours suggesting the cancellation of Bengali, History, and Philosophy at Honours level as entirely baseless, asserting that no such decision has been made.

The ministry clarified that no decision has yet been taken regarding the abolition of these departments or subjects.

Nurul Afsar Dipu, a personal official to education minister, confirmed the matter stating that the claims are false and information circulating on social media is misleading.

According to ministry sources, while discussions regarding higher education reforms and curriculum reviews are ongoing at various levels.

The government has taken no policy decision to discontinue undergraduate Honours programmes in fundamental subjects such as Bengali, History, and Philosophy.

Consequently, reports claiming these subjects are being removed have no factual foundation.

Considering the situation, Dipu urged public to remain cautious of misleading information spread on social media.

He advised that for the purpose of verification, the public should rely on Ministry of Education and other reliable, official government sources.
