US envoy, Jamaat Ameer discuss bilateral issues

United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday morning.

The meeting took place at 11:30am at the Opposition Leader’s office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, according to a press release issued by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

The press release said the meeting was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.

The US ambassador was accompanied by Political Economic Counsellor Eric Gillan and Political Officer Hermanoshi Bernard.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the country’s post-election political and economic situation, the upcoming national budget, bilateral trade and investment prospects, and various aspects of Bangladesh–US relations.

They also discussed the development of democratic institutions, governance issues, economic cooperation, and regional and international matters of mutual interest.

Both sides expressed hope of further strengthening relations based on mutual respect, cooperation and understanding.

Among others, Opposition Leader’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman and Foreign Affairs Adviser team member Ali Ahmad Mabroor r were present.
