Bangladesh is seeking to expand cooperation with Canada in education, skill development and technology-based learning, said Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon on Sunday.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh at his office in Dhaka, the Ministry of Education said in a press release.
During the discussions, both parties reaffirmed the enduring partnership in education and development that has existed since Bangladesh’s independence. Canada has served as a significant development partner, particularly in education, skills training, and institutional development.
Addressing the growing demand for quality education in Bangladesh, Milon informed the High Commissioner that the government is currently reviewing the framework of the Private University Act. This review aims to create opportunities for reputable foreign universities to operate in the country while ensuring they maintain rigorous academic standards and infrastructure.
The Minister emphasised that Bangladesh welcomes partnerships that facilitate capacity building, professional training, and knowledge exchange.
The meeting also placed significant focus on skill development and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. It was noted that Canada is already supporting the strengthening of Bangladesh’s TVET system through partnerships with international organisations such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Bank.
High Commissioner Ajit Singh reiterated Canada’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh in achieving its education and human resource development goals. He underscored the importance of regular dialogue between the governments and institutions of both countries to identify priority areas and build sustainable partnerships.
Both sides agreed to continue technical-level discussions to develop specific collaborative projects in education, skill development, and technology exchange. The meeting concluded with expressions of mutual gratitude for existing ties and a shared commitment to further expanding cooperation in the education sector for the benefit of future generations.
