A mild earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale was felt in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.
The earthquake occurred around 11:41am, said the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
It reported that the epicenter was located 29 kilometres northeast of Mirzapur in Tangail, 47 kilometres south of Mymensingh, and 22 kilometres northeast of Sakhipur.
Its geographic coordinates were 24.33°N latitude and 90.39°E longitude.
The organisation further stated that the quake originated at a shallow depth of just 10 kilometres beneath the earth’s surface.
According to experts, Bangladesh is at risk of earthquakes. The country lies at the junction of three seismic plates, which makes occasional tremors here a normal occurrence in their view.
The worrying part is that more earthquakes are now starting inside Bangladesh itself. Notably, tremors have become more frequent in the southwest region of the country, an area previously considered low‑risk.
