Filmmaker Mike Flanagan could become the latest major creative force behind Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming Warhammer 40,000 series starring Henry Cavill, writes Hindustan Times.
According to Deadline, Flanagan is in talks to join the live-action adaptation as an executive producer.
He is also exploring a larger role in the project, including potentially serving as showrunner, writer and director.
No official deal has been confirmed yet.
The possible collaboration has created excitement among fans of both the Warhammer 40,000 franchise and Flanagan’s acclaimed work in horror and dark storytelling.
Amazon MGM Studios acquired the global rights to Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 universe in December 2024, with Cavill attached to star in and executive produce the series.
Cavill, a longtime fan of the tabletop war game, helped bring the project to Amazon after securing the rights with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Natalie Viscuso.
Set in a distant future, Warhammer 40,000 explores a brutal universe where humanity fights for survival against alien species, internal conflicts and powerful forces beyond human understanding.
The series will be executive produced by Cavill, Vertigo Entertainment, Games Workshop’s Andy Smillie and Max Bottrill, along with Amazon MGM.
Flanagan’s potential involvement comes as he continues his partnership with Amazon MGM Studios.
The filmmaker signed a multi-year overall deal with the studio in March to develop and produce original series.
His upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie will serve as the first project under the agreement.
Known for his work in the horror and thriller genres, Flanagan created acclaimed Netflix series including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher.
His film credits include Stephen King adaptations Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game, along with Oculus, Hush and Ouija: Origin of Evil. His 2024 film The Life of Chuck won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Flanagan is currently attached to write, direct and produce The Exorcist: Martyrs for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.
