Mohammedan Sporting Club have continued to strengthen their squad ahead of the new football season. The club have signed five Bangladesh national team players, including four from league champions Bashundhara Kings.
The new signings are defender Saad Uddin, forward Foysal Ahmed Fahim, midfielder Sohel Rana Jr., forward Shahriar Emon, and defender Shakil Ahad Topu. Topu played for Mohammedan last season.
All five have represented Bangladesh at international level. Saad, Fahim and Topu have been regular members of the national team’s starting eleven.
Mohammedan had already confirmed 24 players for the new season, including 18 from last year’s squad. The latest additions have taken the squad size to 29 players.
Club director of sports Mostakur Rahman said Mohammedan have built a strong squad with the title in mind.
“Our target is to become champions this season. That is why we have signed quality players. Today we completed the deals for Saad, Fahim, Sohel Rana, Shahriar Emon and Shakil Ahad. We now have 29 players in the squad,” he said.
Fahim also confirmed that he has joined Mohammedan. However, he said he will speak more about the move later.
Mohammedan will keep Uzbek midfielder Muzaffar Muzaffarov from last season. The club will sign three new foreign players to complete the squad.
The club are also sending a team to Uzbekistan to watch players before making their foreign signings. They also hope to appoint a coach from Uzbekistan. At the same time, talks are continuing with former Australian coach Sean Lane.
