Midland Bank PLC reviewed its first-half performance and set business strategies for the remainder of 2026 at its Half-Yearly Strategic Conference held on 18 July at Fortis Downtown Resort in Dhaka.
The meeting brought together the bank’s senior management, divisional and unit heads, area and cluster heads, branch and sub-branch chiefs, relationship managers and other officials to assess performance and formulate plans for achieving annual targets, the bank said in a press release.
Midland Bank Chairman Ahsan Khan Chowdhury attended the conference as chief guest, while Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Imtiaz U Ahmed inaugurated and chaired the business sessions.
Ahmed highlighted the bank’s achievements during the first six months of the year and called for greater focus on customer-centred services, sustainable business growth, regulatory compliance, recovery of non-performing loans and the maintenance of strong asset quality.
Chief Financial Officer Didarul Islam presented an overview of the bank’s financial performance, while Sushanta Sekhar Deb, Head of Treasury and Market Risk, reviewed the performance of its treasury business.
Area heads presented analyses of their respective business segments, focusing on profitability, deposit composition, loan-recovery performance and strategic plans for the following six months.
The conference also reviewed the performance and business plans of the bank’s agent banking, cards and bancassurance operations.
High-performing branch managers presented their results, while comparatively lower-performing branches outlined improvement plans. The presentations led to discussions on business growth and operational excellence.
During the afternoon session, Mohd Javed Tarek Khan, Head of the Institutional Banking Division, presented an overall assessment of the division’s business performance during the first half of 2026.
The Institutional Banking Division, small and medium-sized enterprise business, treasury and other units subsequently reviewed their half-yearly results and set out initiatives aimed at meeting their full-year business targets.
Deputy Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer Md Nazmul Huda Sarkar led an interactive discussion covering operations, cards, bancassurance, agent banking, management information systems and RSSQG.
Participants also discussed credit administration, credit-risk management, anti-money-laundering controls, special-asset management, legal affairs, risk management and information security.
The discussions were aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and supporting the bank’s broader strategic objectives.
Chowdhury addressed participants during the evening session, encouraging officials to remain focused on excellence, innovation, teamwork and customer-oriented banking as the lender pursues its strategic vision and sustainable growth.
The bank also held a recognition ceremony for outstanding performers across different business segments.
Employees were awarded crests, certificates, cash rewards and promotions for what the bank described as exceptional achievements and contributions to its performance.
The conference concluded with the formulation of strategies for the remaining months of 2026.
A friendly football tournament was held in the evening to promote teamwork and strengthen ties among employees. The Head Office Team won the tournament, while the Sub-Branch Team finished as runner-up.
