According to Mohammadpur police, the victim, Asadul alias Lombu Asadul, was attacked around 12:50am on 16 April in front of Ripon’s workshop at Sadek Khan’s Itkhola area of Rayerbazar. The assailants used sharp weapons and bricks, leaving him critically injured.
Asadul collapsed from excessive bleeding. Residents alerted police, who rescued him and rushed him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, the victim’s cousin, Anju Akter, filed a murder case at Mohammadpur Police Station.
Using intelligence and technology, police tracked the suspects’ movements and, on Friday conducted a raid in Keraniganj. The four were arrested, and a motorcycle along with a knife used in the killing were recovered.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the victim and suspects had once been friends. However, the murder was premeditated, stemming from a previous altercation in which Asadul severely injured Akter Hossain, leading to a legal case. Police also suspect disputes over monetary transactions played a role.
