City Bank Managing Director (MD) and CEO Mashrur Arefin has been re-elected chairman of the Association of Bankers Bangladesh (ABB) for the 2026–27 term at the bankers’ body’s 28th annual general meeting.
Trust Bank MD and CEO Ahsan Zaman Chowdhury was elected secretary general at the AGM of ABB, the apex body of the country’s commercial bank executives, according to a press statement issued after the meeting.
Prime Bank MD and CEO Hassan O Rashid, Pubali Bank MD and CEO Mohammad Ali, and United Commercial Bank MD and CEO Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid were elected vice chairmen.
NRB Bank MD and CEO Tarek Reaz Khan was elected treasurer, while Jamuna Bank MD and CEO Mirza Elias Uddin Ahmed was elected joint secretary.
The AGM also elected 12 bank MDs and CEOs as members of the ABB Board of Governors.
Re-elected chairman Mashrur Arefin is a professional banker with 31 years of experience and has been serving as City Bank MD and CEO for the past seven years. He also serves as chairperson of the SWIFT Members and Users Group in Bangladesh.
Newly elected secretary general Ahsan Zaman Chowdhury began his banking career at AB Bank in 1986, later joined Eastern Bank in 1998, and has been serving as Trust Bank MD and CEO since July 2024.
