Marvel has confirmed that a new era for the Avengers will begin on 16 September, marking the arrival of a major new character ahead of the team’s full comic relaunch later this year.
The publisher had already announced that Avengers would return with Volume 10 in November, introducing a radically reshaped team. However, Marvel has now revealed that the transformation will begin earlier.
The current event series, Avengers: Armageddon, follows the Avengers and their powerful ally David Colton as they battle the Red Hulk. The story will continue to set the stage for the franchise’s next chapter.
Marvel has also confirmed that Avengers: Armageddon #4, scheduled for release on 16 September, will introduce an entirely new character. The publisher described the issue as featuring “a key moment in Marvel history as a new character takes the stage.”
Before the announcement, readers had speculated that the mystery addition to the new Avengers line-up could be David Colton or the new Wonder Man, Vin Lerner. Marvel’s latest preview, however, confirms that the character will be someone entirely new.
The Avengers first appeared in 1963, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The superhero team has undergone several reinventions over the decades, with its 2012 Marvel Cinematic Universe debut becoming one of the franchise’s defining milestones.
Marvel’s latest announcement signals that another significant chapter for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is about to begin.
