Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep local cautionary signal no. 3 hoisted as a low‑pressure area over the northwest Bay and adjoining Odisha–West Bengal coast intensified into a well‑marked low.

The Met office said squally weather may affect ports, the North Bay and coastal areas. Fishing boats and trawlers have been told to stay near shore and proceed with caution, UNB reports.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecast rain during the 24 hours from 9am Saturday.

It said, “Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at many places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Barishal divisions and at one or two places over Dhaka and Khulna divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.”

A mild heat wave is sweeping Rajshahi, Pabna, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Kurigram, Feni and Chuadanga, which may ease in some areas. Day temperatures may drop slightly, while night temperatures remain steady.

The monsoon trough runs across northern India into Bangladesh and Assam, keeping monsoon fairly active over Bangladesh and strong over the North Bay.
