The talk show-based film ‘Manushtike Dekh’ (See the Person) is set to be released in cinemas on Friday, May 1, coinciding with May Day.
Funded by the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), the film is directed by Gazi Rakayet and produced by Humayun Farid. It will be screened at Jamuna Blockbuster Cinemas in Dhaka, according to the producer.
Humayun Farid said the film has been made with the aim of challenging social superstitions and raising public awareness.
The film features a large ensemble cast including Tariq Anam Khan, Mamunur Rashid, Shatabdi Wadud, Gazi Rakayet, Ehsanur Rahman, Kazi Nowshaba, Mrinal Dutt, Valerie Anne Taylor and others.
Written by British writer and filmmaker Elspeth Wieldy, the story centres on Farida Ahmed, a woman with cerebral palsy who faces societal neglect and prejudice while fighting for dignity and rights. Her journey is supported by a young man, Firoz Malmud, though their relationship is challenged by family and social pressures.
Director Gazi Rakayet, who has previously made ‘Mrittika Maya’ and ‘Gor – The Grave’, both National Award-winning films, said he hopes the new release will also resonate with audiences.
Technical contributions include art direction by Uttam Guha, cinematography by Sheikh Rajibul Islam, background score by Syed Sabab Ali Arju, editing by Prince Sajal and colour grading by Sourav Das.
The trailer of the film has already been released online, generating interest ahead of its theatrical debut.
