Detectives have detained a person in connection with the alleged hacking of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman’s X account.

Sarwar Alam, an assistant programmer at Bangabhaban, was detained during an operation in the capital’s Rajarbagh area around 1am on Wednesday.

A mobile phone and a laptop were seized from his possession during the operation.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted the raid at a government quarter on the eastern side of the Rajarbagh Police Lines auditorium.

Police said he was taken into DB custody for interrogation. Action will be taken against him after questioning, according to DB sources.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur confirmed the detention of the suspect.

He said, “I hope that justice will now be served, which is very much needed. There is no alternative to such legal measures in controlling cybercrime and ensuring a fair election. If punishment is ensured, many will be more cautious.”

He also said he is looking forward to seeing the proper implementation of the law and thanked the law enforcement authorities for taking swift and appropriate action in such a short time.
