Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has claimed that social media accounts of several senior leaders, including the official Twitter (X) account of the party’s Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, were targeted in a recent cyberattack.
A general diary has been filed at Hatirjheel Police Station regarding the incident.
The Central Campaign Team of the party confirmed this in a statement on Sunday. It said, “Using a highly sophisticated and coordinated method, the attackers were able to temporarily take control of one social media account.”
It added, “However, through swift action and the use of existing security protocols, our cyber team successfully regained control. As a result, no other accounts were compromised, and the security of all remaining platforms has been effectively ensured.”
During the brief incident, an unauthorised post was published in which a statement was falsely attributed to the Ameer-e-Jamaat, it added.
“We categorically state that the content in question does not reflect the Ameer-e-Jamaat’s views, position, or statements, and is entirely false and misleading.”
The campaign team urged the public, journalists, and social media users to remain vigilant against fake news, fabricated quotations, and misinformation. It warned that disinformation, identity impersonation, and distorted content are legally punishable and undermine democratic values.
The party requested that information be verified only through official and reliable sources and encouraged reporting of suspicious and misleading digital materials. It reiterated its commitment to transparency, digital security, and safeguarding the integrity of public communication, adding that further updates will be provided if necessary.
