The country’s education system will be restructured on a value-based framework, with family values, moral education, civic responsibility, and religious and cultural awareness to be included as key components of the new curriculum, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said.
Speaking at an exchange meeting at the Directorate of Primary Education in Mirpur, the state minister said ensuring foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) in primary education is one of the government’s top priorities.
“The journey of the 2028 curriculum reform formally begins today. In formulating the new curriculum, the highest importance will be given to the real learning capacity, reading skills, mathematics skills, and life-oriented education of primary-level students,” the state minister said.
Bobby Hajjaj said the new curriculum will have clear learning outcomes for each grade and a specific “exit profile” of skills that students will achieve after completing class five.
“If a class-2 or class-3 student is asked to read a book, they should be able to read it with understanding, express it in their own language, and remain interested in learning – that is the goal we are working towards,” he said.
Video lessons, digital content, and supplementary educational materials will be created in line with the new curriculum. Pre-primary education will be conducted entirely through play-based and joyful learning methods, the state minister said.
He also informed that interactive flat panels (IFP) will be provided to every government primary school within the next year, and within three years, every classroom will have IFP.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Directorate of Primary Education, National Academy for Primary Education, BRAC Education Programme, Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), and Plan International Bangladesh were present at the event.
