Police arrested three individuals, including the main shooter, on Friday night in connection with the killing of Azizur Rahman Musabbir, a leader of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, at Tejturi Bazar in Kawran Bazar.
The arrestees have been identified as Jinat, the main shooter, and Billal, a suspected planner. The third individual is believed to be an accomplice of the two.
The arrests were made late Friday night during operations in Manikganj and Gazipur districts by a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), a senior DB official confirmed.
Earlier, police obtained new video footage related to Musabbir’s murder. Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kayshainu Marma said the latest footage clearly shows the shooters’ faces, which is now being analyzed to identify and apprehend other suspects involved in the case.
Musabbir, 45, the former general secretary of the Dhaka North unit of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, was shot by assailants around 8pm on Wednesday in an alley behind Star Hotel at Tejturi Bazar.
He was taken to a private hospital in Panthapath, where doctors declared him dead. Following the incident, his wife, Suraiya Begum, filed a murder case with the Tejgaon Police Station.
