Bangladesh Cricket Board has reshaped its Under-19 team management structure as it starts planning for the 2028 Youth World Cup, with Mahmudullah Riyad taking a mentor role and former opener Imrul Kayes joining as batting coach.
BCB wants Mahmudullah to work beyond the Under-19 side and support multiple development teams across the pathway structure. The board also plans to include him with the High Performance unit during its Australia programme.
The move places one of Bangladesh’s most experienced cricketers in a broader development position. Mahmudullah spent years inside the national side and carried leadership duties across formats. BCB now wants that experience around younger players.
The board also handed former national cricketer and ex-selector Hannan Sarkar the Under-19 head coach role. BCB added Imrul to the coaching panel for the current series and gave him responsibility for batting development.
The revised set-up also includes Mohammad Selim as fielding coach. Dollar Mahmud will oversee pace bowling duties, while Arshad Khan will work with the spinners. Morshed Caesar joins the staff as trainer.
BCB has shifted attention towards long-term planning rather than short-term tournament preparation. The board now wants a tighter link between age-group cricket, development squads and the senior programme.
Several former Bangladesh internationals have moved into coaching and development work in recent years. BCB has now added Mahmudullah and Imrul to that list as it builds towards the next youth cycle.
