Madhumita Sarcar is stepping into Telugu cinema with Maya Lady, a romantic psychological thriller that promises an unpredictable love story. The Bengali actress stars opposite Baahubali actor Rakesh Varre in her Telugu debut.
Madhumita shared the first glimpse of the film and its poster on social media on Monday. “A special gift from Maya Lady,” she wrote, giving fans their first look at her new project.
The poster sets a playful and slightly chaotic romantic tone. Madhumita leans towards Rakesh, with one arm around his shoulder, while he holds a finger to her lips. She carries a colourful bottle, while Rakesh, dressed in a maroon shirt, looks startled and almost nervous. Confetti, festoon lights and a blue-and-purple backdrop add to the party-like setting.
The film revolves around “a wild and unpredictable love story”. Rakesh, who also produces the project under Crazy Ants Productions, stars alongside Madhumita. Prasankar has written the story and screenplay and directed the film, while Vishal Chandrashekhar has composed the music.
The Telugu debut marks another step in Madhumita’s growing presence beyond Bengali cinema. She recently travelled to Bangladesh for Gulshaner Chameli, her first film from across the border, directed by Mohammad Iqbal.
With Gulshaner Chameli in Bangladesh and Maya Lady in Telugu cinema, Madhumita is now exploring two distinct film industries. Maya Lady is slated to release this monsoon.
