Prime Minister’s Policy and Strategy Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman has urged consumers to submit specific information and supporting details regarding complaints of excessive electricity and energy bills instead of making general allegations.
He made the remarks during the weekly press briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday, responding to a question from journalists.
“If any citizen has a complaint about an unusually high bill, they should first submit it in writing to the relevant authority. If the authority refuses to accept the complaint or fails to provide a solution, that should also be reported with specific details,” Zahed Ur Rahman said.
The adviser said authorities had received several complaints over electricity bills in the past and took necessary steps after reviewing and verifying the claims.
He said he had discussed the issue with Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, adding that the ministry was treating consumers’ complaints about excessive billing with due importance.
“Even if someone fails to file a complaint or the relevant authority does not take it into consideration, they can inform us about the matter. The Energy Ministry is committed to ensuring proper remedies for citizens’ grievances,” he said.
Zahed Ur Rahman said complaints containing specific information are being investigated and necessary action is being taken based on the findings.
