Popular West Bengal actress Madhumita Sarcar has arrived in Bangladesh to attend the official launch ceremony of the upcoming film Gulshaner Chameli.
The actress landed in Dhaka at around 10am on Saturday (1 August).
Her visit is centred on the film’s muhurat ceremony, which is scheduled to take place later in the evening at a five-star hotel in the capital.
Confirming the development, the film’s director Mohammad Iqbal said Madhumita travelled to Bangladesh specifically for the event.
“Our film’s muhurat ceremony will be held tonight. The names of the cast and crew will be officially announced during the event, which is why Madhumita Sarcar has come to Bangladesh,” he said.
Speaking about the production schedule, Iqbal clarified that the ceremony marks only the formal launch of the project.
“Today is only the muhurat. Principal photography is expected to begin in November or December,” he added.
Gulshaner Chameli is based on the life and struggles of a sex worker, exploring themes of politics, power and social injustice.
The film is expected to feature an ensemble cast from both Bangladesh and abroad.
The confirmed cast includes Bangladeshi actors Omar Sani, Amin Khan, Ashish Khondker, and veteran actress Rozina.
National Film Award-winning actress Azmeri Haque Badhan is also set to appear in a key role.
Earlier, Badhan confirmed that discussions regarding her participation were underway and revealed that she is expected to play a human rights activist and lawyer in the film.
The producers are expected to unveil the complete cast and crew during Saturday night’s launch ceremony.
