M A Khan Belal has been elected chairman of the Board of Directors of Mercantile Bank PLC at the bank’s 490th board meeting, held last Thursday at its head office in Dhaka.
Before his election as chairman, he served as the chairman of the bank’s Executive Committee, reads a press release.
With extensive experience in trade, industry, shipping and banking, Belal has established several successful companies in Bangladesh and currently serves as chairman of the Samrat Group of Companies.
He is also the elected president of the Noakhali Zilla Samiti.
Apart from his business activities, Belal is widely recognised for his contributions to society through various social welfare initiatives, as well as education, healthcare and social development programmes.
He is also the founder of several schools, madrasas, mosques and other socio-cultural organisations in Begumganj.
