Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy are leading Bangladesh’s recovery after early setbacks in the third ODI against Australia. At the end of 25 overs, Bangladesh reached 114 for 3 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and chose to bat first. He is leading the side after Mehidy Hasan Miraz was ruled out with a concussion suffered in the previous match.
Australia made the perfect start with the ball. Xavier Bartlett removed Soumya Sarkar for 2 in the fifth over. The fast bowler got the ball to move back in and found the batter’s inside edge before hitting the stumps.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim then tried to put pressure on the bowlers. He scored 19 from 20 balls but could not turn his start into a bigger innings. Matt Renshaw got the breakthrough when Tanzid mistimed an attacking shot and offered a simple catch.
Renshaw struck again soon after. The part-time spinner cleaned up Shanto for 24 from 50 balls. The Bangladesh captain spent time at the crease but could not push on.
Bangladesh slipped to 68 for 3 before Litton and Hridoy came together. The pair have rebuilt the innings with a calm approach. They have rotated the strike well and kept the scoreboard moving.
After 25 overs, Litton was unbeaten on 27 from 45 balls. Hridoy was not out on 23 from 51 deliveries. Their stand has helped Bangladesh regain control after a difficult start.
