Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan informed Parliament on Tuesday that a list of individuals who used fraudulent means to be identified as freedom fighters will be presented to the nation soon.
The minister stated that these non-freedom fighters, who were included in the list through various tricks, secured government jobs for their children and benefited personally in different ways. He assured the House that these specific details will be made public soon.
The parliamentary session began at 3:30pm on Tuesday, with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed presiding.
In response to a supplementary question following a question from lawmaker Mohammad Shamim Kayser, Azam Khan notified the House that his ministry is currently working to distinguish genuine freedom fighters from those who are not.
“We hope to provide specific numbers and present them clearly before the nation in a very short time,” the minister said.
Azam Khan further noted that the Ministry is addressing issues regarding the location of Liberation War buildings at the Upazila level. He revealed that the ministry has received numerous complaints regarding the harassment of genuine freedom fighters during the 18-year tenure of a fascist regime.
According to the Minister, many authentic freedom fighters had their allowances stopped and their certificates suspended during that period.
Simultaneously, many non-freedom fighters were added to the list and have since been receiving allowances and other illegal benefits. The minister informed the Parliament that work is ongoing to rectify these issues.
