At least twelve people were killed as lightning strikes ravaged six districts across the country between Saturday morning to afternoon.

The fatalities were reported in Sunamganj, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Habiganj, and Kishoreganj as pre-monsoon storms intensified.

Sunamganj

The district recorded the highest number of casualties, with five people losing their lives in separate incidents.

In Dharmapasha, 22-year-old Habibur Rahman, a student of Badshaganj Degree College and son of Fazlur Rahman, was struck by lightning while harvesting paddy at Togar Haor with his uncle. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

In a separate incident in Saraswatipur, Dharmapasha, 13-year-old Rahmat Ullah, son of Joynal Haq, was killed. His father, Joynal Haq (35), and another individual, Shikha Moni (25), sustained injuries and have been referred to Mymensingh for treatment.

In Tahirpur, Abul Kalam, also known as Kala Mia (28), died while working at a duck farm. In Jamalganj, a man identified as Nuruzzaman was killed while working in a haor, leaving another person injured.

Meanwhile, in Derai upazila, 38-year-old Liton Mia was struck while harvesting paddy and was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.

Rangpur

Rangpur Two persons were killed and at least 11 others, including three children, were injured in Mithapukur upazila.

The deceased, identified as Milon Mia (35) and Taleb Uddin (45) of Sakhipur village, were fishing in Chhota Shalmara Beel during the morning rain when the strike occurred. Mizanur Rahman, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex, and Nuruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithapukur Police Station, confirmed the deaths.

Mymensingh

Lightning strikes claimed two lives in the afternoon. In Gouripur, a farmer named Rahmat Ullah died while working in a paddy field around 2:30 pm. In Gafargaon, an elderly man named Momtaz Ali was killed while bringing cattle back from a field.

Netrakona

In Atpara upazila, 65-year-old Altu Mia, a resident of Hatia village, was killed while cutting grass in a haor. The incident was confirmed by Atpara Police Station OC Md Jubaydul Alam and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Shahanur Rahman.

Habiganj

A 60-year-old man named Sunam Uddin, son of the late Sundar Ali, was killed while harvesting paddy in Momina Haor on the banks of the Bibiyana River in Nabiganj upazila. Local UP Member Jewel Mia and Nabiganj Police Station OC Md Monayem Mia confirmed that he died on the spot.

Kishoreganj

In Karimganj upazila, a labourer identified as Helal Mia (38) was killed while harvesting paddy in Bor Haor. Karimganj Police Station OC Emranul Karim confirmed that the accident occurred during the afternoon.
