Amazon Prime Video has confirmed a July 2026 premiere for ‘Elle’, a prequel series inspired by the ‘Legally Blonde’ franchise, while also announcing an early renewal for a second season.
The series will premiere on July 1, with all episodes of the first season released at once. Production on season two is set to begin later this spring, signalling strong confidence from the streamer ahead of the show’s debut.
Elle shifts the focus to Elle Woods’ teenage years, tracing her life in high school and the experiences that shaped her into the confident law student audiences first met in the 2001 hit film. The title role is played by Lexi Minetree, who takes over the character originally made famous by Reese Witherspoon.
Witherspoon, who serves as an executive producer through her Hello Sunshine banner, said revisiting Elle Woods’ story has been especially meaningful as the franchise marks its 25th anniversary. She described Minetree’s casting as a highlight of the project and said the series aims to carry forward themes of kindness, self-belief and authenticity for a new generation of viewers.
The cast also includes June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott as Elle’s parents, alongside Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney and Zac Looker. James Van Der Beek and David Burtka feature among the recurring ensemble.
Created by Laura Kittrell, who co-showruns with Caroline Dries, the series is executive produced by Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt and Amanda Brown. Jason Moore directed the opening episodes.
The original Legally Blonde film was a global box office success and later spawned a sequel, a stage musical and further spin-offs. With Elle, Amazon is expanding the franchise by exploring the origins of one of cinema’s most recognisable characters, while committing to its future with a second season already in development.
