After nearly 24 hours of travel, Kane Williamson made a decisive impact for Rajshahi Warriors, joining the team meeting shortly after arriving in Dhaka and then stepping onto the field to guide his side to a 12-run victory over Sylhet Titans in the second qualifier. The win secures Rajshahi’s place in the final against Chattogram Royals.
The New Zealand star had been playing in South Africa’s SA20, where his team’s group-stage exit on Monday set off a whirlwind journey. After three transits and almost a full day of travel from Durban, Williamson reached Dhaka in the morning and was ready to take the field by evening. Despite the exhaustion, Rajshahi were determined to bring him in to execute a precise strategic plan.
On the pitch, Williamson joined forces with compatriot Jimmy Neesham to forge a critical 77-run partnership for the sixth wicket off just 50 balls, stabilising the innings after four quick wickets had left the team under pressure. Williamson remained unbeaten on 45 from 38 deliveries, helping Rajshahi reach a total of 165 and eventually secure a 12-run win over Sylhet.
Coach Hannan Sarkar praised Williamson’s professionalism and game awareness, highlighting that the 35-year-old immediately joined the team meeting after arriving at the hotel at 9:30 am and only then rested before the match. “He is world-class and brings the right mindset to every team he plays in,” Sarkar said. “On Mirpur pitches, where totals of 150–160 are competitive, his inclusion was vital. Experienced players like him and Neesham can plan and execute under pressure, and today they proved it.”
Rajshahi’s decision to secure Williamson despite the logistical challenges underscores their strategy to strengthen their top order. The Kiwi veteran, a legend in Test and ODI cricket, has not always dominated in T20, but his experience and composure proved decisive in the qualifier.
