Police have arrested three people, including the prime suspect, in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Md Rafi in Dhaka’s Lalbagh area.
The main accused, identified as Md Emon, also known as Baburchi Emon, was apprehended on Wednesday during a raid in the Cox’s Bazar Sadar area.
Following his arrest and based on information he provided, police recovered nine rounds of pistol ammunition from a residence in Keraniganj.
According to police, Rafi was shot at close range by unidentified assailants around 8:30 pm on 14 May near Lane No. 3 in Shahidnagar under Lalbagh Police Station.
Rafi’s family, with the assistance of local residents, rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After battling his injuries for several days, he passed away at the hospital at around 9:30 am on Wednesday.
Law enforcement had initiated drives to arrest the perpetrators immediately following the shooting. On Monday, police arrested two other suspects, identified as Kana Shahabuddin and Rezaul, during operations in various parts of the capital.
Based on information obtained from the arrested suspects and intelligence inputs, police traced the location of the prime accused Md Emon.
Authorities said three individuals directly linked to the murder have so far been arrested.
Investigation is ongoing to uncover the motive behind the killing and identify any additional suspects involved in the incident.
